The Clay Studio at the LCCC

Welcome clay artists!

The Clay Studio works on a membership model. By registering and paying an annual fee ($50 a year + Firing) studio members will be certified to use the studio and submit work to be fired. Each member will be provided with a shelf to dry, and store works in progress.

The Studio Manager sells a variety of clay types, with payment made by credit card, cash or check to LCCC.

Oregon Coast Community College: Beginning Ceramics

General introduction to fundamental ceramic skills and clay experience to foster artistic growth. Students will learn techniques for hand building without the use of the potter’s wheel. Topics include methods of pinch, coil, and slab construction, applying glaze and introduction to loading and firing an electric kiln. Two classes per week for four weeks, 8 sessions total. Class is held at the Lincoln City Cultural Center. Students purchase their own clay and tools at a cost of $50, on the first day of class.

Ceramic Trout Workshop

Wed. September 20th and 27th 1:pm-3:pm 2-part class. Catch a Fish — It was THIS big!
Sculpt a fish from clay to hang on your wall. Build and decorate your own personal fish. No experience needed. A great way to learn the basics of slab construction: build the first week and glaze the second week. The $55 fee includes all materials and instruction. All skill levels are welcome. Harvest Pumpkin Workshop

Sat. OCT. 7Th & 14th • 10 – 12PM 2- part class Who doesn’t love FALL! – Create a beautiful Fall or Halloween pumpkin from clay! This cute little sculpture is so sweet and fun to make that you’ll want to start your very own pumpkin patch! We will be making pumpkins from clay. Come create a unique, hand-built pumpkin, or two! We will walk you through the process, step-by-step. Build the first week and glaze the second week. The $55 fee includes all materials and instruction. All skill levels welcome. The studio is happy to host opportunities to support artistic growth and community. Potential activities include workshops with visiting artists or to focus on a specific technique, studio visits, ceramic sales and social gatherings.

  • ​For the safety of equipment and everyone’s work, use of studio clay and glazes is required, except by special permission.
  • The studio is not equipped to support production potters, but for the exploration and enjoyment of clay.
