“Her Light Escape” is a program of art song that mirrors the cyclical nature of the changing seasons using words from iconic poetics through the musical scores of prominent composers. This moving program is performed by the Spire Duo — Emma Rose Lynn and Andrew T. Pham — and is coming to the Lincoln City Cultural Center on September 21.

Lynn, soprano, and Pham, piano, both share a love of chamber music, of poetry, and of using live music to illustrate the depths of the human spirit. Using the words of master poets such as Emily Dickinson, W. H. Auden, and Robert Louis Stevenson capture the joy, dejection, wonder, and renewal of a year in a life well-lived through the music of composers such as Benjamin Britten, André Previn, Dominick Argento, and more. Reserved seating tickets are $25 for adults, $23 for seniors ages 60 and up, and $12 for youth ages 18 and under.

The program begins with the changing colors and falling leaves of autumn, ventures through the harsh elements and episodic slumps of the winter, rejoices in the burgeoning of new life in the spring, and finally arrives in the welcome quietude of a warm summer, reflecting on both sentimental moments of the past as well as life’s present beauty.

Emma Rose Lynn is a versatile musician in demand for repertoire that spans the medieval to modern periods. She has a deep love of chamber music and has been profiled by both the Seattle Times and the Eugene Weekly for her entrepreneurial approach in making art song readily accessible to modern audiences. Building community through music is one of her driving passions in life, and she seeks to build bridges and bring people together in celebration of live music. Emma also loves teaching and runs a private voice studio based in Eugene, Oregon.

A sensitive and thoughtful musician, Andrew Pham currently resides in Eugene, Oregon, where he freelances as an accompanist and teaches piano independently. At the University of Oregon, he performs as an accompanist for both music majors and non-majors in the School of Music and Dance, accompanies for UO Ballet, and has accompanied for UO Theater productions. He also serves as the second pianist and assistant to the conductor for Cascadia Chamber Opera, which recently premiered “Tango of the White Gardenias,” a commissioned opera by composer Ethan Gans-Morse.

The Vocal Arts Series begins in September with Her Light Escape and continues with one concert a month through March 2020. From OSU’s men’s a capella group Outspoken to the Northwest premiere of Kastalsky’s “Requiem” performed by Cappella Romana, these vocal concerts are guaranteed to delight.
