Arts Exploration Outreach

The Arts Exploration Outreach project has brought art education and experiences into the classrooms of North Lincoln County School students from 1st grade through 6th grade, who have not had access to an ongoing art program for the last two decades. Roughly 650 students now receive a monthly art class rooted in art literacy, Oregon Art Standards, and some integrated themes from classroom lessons. Through this program students gain creative confidence and problem-solving abilities; they feel heard through creative expression, and enjoy creating art at school. These learned skills enrich the lives of participating students and, by contact, the lives of their families. The program also supports the 35 teachers who are involved.

This program has been met with an extraordinary amount of enthusiasm by school staff and administrators as well as by the students. The students often cite the art classes as the best part of their school experience. Art instructor Krista Eddy has developed this curriculum in collaboration with teachers so that it integrates arts instruction with the subject matter of classroom lessons in an educational, fun, and engaging way.

The Arts Exploration Outreach program has been made possible by the James F. and Marion L. Miller Foundation, the Braemar Charitable Trust, and the Lincoln County School District.
